  3. <hi style=afpcap>The Air Force's best-known warplanes are its fighters. Though many deny it, up to 80 per cent of all pilot trainees request fighters as their first choice. The Lockheed Martin F-16C Fighting Falcon (top), McDonnell Douglas F-15E Eagle (center) and F-15C Eagle (in background) are the service's three principal fighters. These belong to the 366th Wing at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, as does the KC-135R Stratotanker shown refueling them.</hi>
